My First Wal-Mart Price Match = Saved $6.08

It was a split-second decision.  I could turn right to go to Kroger or left to go to Wal-Mart. I knew I had to go to Wal-Mart, so the question was, was I willing to go to two stores with my 21-month-old in tow just to save a few bucks.

Then it occurred to me that perhaps I should try to price match the items at Wal-Mart that I knew were on sale at Kroger.  Boy was I glad I did.

My main concern was blueberries, but then I realized that I needed yogurt, shredded cheese, and potatoes. I knew all of these were on sale at Kroger.  So I got my smart phone out and pulled up my Kroger app.  I checked to see what the sales were and had them handy at the check-out.

I saved my price-match items for the end, and when it came time, I simply showed the cashier the Kroger prices on my phone.  Not only was she very kind (and not annoyed at all), but she was impressed at the ease of my finding those items so quickly. It made her job easier. And it saved me  money and time.

Here’s what I saved:

Blueberries, 2 pints:
Wal-Mart Price: $3.98/pint
Kroger Sale: $2.50/pint
Saved: $2.96

Kraft shredded cheese, 2 packages:
Wal-Mart price: $2.58
Kroger Sale:  $2.00
Saved: $1.16

Dannon 32-ounce yogurt, 2 packages:
Wal-Mart price: $2.48
Kroger Sale: $2.00
Saved: $0.96

Potatoes, 10-lb. bag
Wal-Mart Price: $3.97
Kroger Sale: $2.97
Saved: $1.00

Total Savings: $6.08

Bottom Line: I try to shop Kroger sales when I can, partly because the money I spend goes toward savings on gas, and partly because they double coupons (I didn’t have any that day).  However, if I’m in a rush and don’t want to stop at two stores, I’ll definitely price match again. It was worth the extra 30 seconds! 🙂
